Kevin's Place Asian Restaurant serves authentic Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine to the Holt and greater Canberra community. Our family-owned, 80-seat restaurant and function room cater to family dining, celebrations, and corporate events, using fresh, quality ingredients to deliver true flavours of Asia. We are looking for an experienced Chef to join our kitchen team and help maintain the high standards of authentic cuisine our customers expect.

About the Role

Kevin's Place Asian Restaurant is seeking a skilled and experienced full-time Chef to plan, organise, and oversee the preparation and cooking of food across our à la carte, takeaway, and function/event menus. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining consistent quality, authenticity, and presentation of our Vietnamese and Chinese dishes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plan menus and daily specials, and estimate food and labour costs for dishes and functions
  2. Order and manage food supplies, ingredients, and kitchen stock
  3. Prepare and cook a diverse range of authentic Vietnamese and Chinese dishes, including à la carte, takeaway, and function/banquet menus
  4. Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation, ensuring consistency and authenticity of flavour
  5. Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on food preparation procedures
  6. Discuss food preparation, menu planning, and special event requirements with management and front-of-house staff
  7. Explain and enforce food safety and hygiene regulations in the kitchen
  8. Select, train, and supervise kitchen staff as required
  9. Freeze and preserve foods where appropriate
  10. Contribute to menu development for functions, birthdays, and corporate events hosted in our function room

Skills and Experience Required

  1. At least 2 years of relevant full-time experience working as a Chef, preferably with experience in Vietnamese and/or Chinese cuisine
  2. Relevant trade qualification in commercial cookery (e.g. Certificate III/IV in Commercial Cookery) is highly regarded but not essential where relevant experience is demonstrated
  3. Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen management practices
  4. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage food costs and kitchen supplies
  5. Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen environment, including à la carte, takeaway, and function service
  6. Strong communication skills and ability to train and guide junior kitchen staff
  7. Availability to work a full-time schedule, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required by the restaurant trade

Remuneration

AUD $75,000 – $95,000 per annum, plus superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
