Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct food preparation and cooking activities.
- Develop, review, and modify menus to meet quality standards and customer preferences.
- Estimate food requirements and control food and labour costs.
- Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff to ensure efficiency and teamwork.
- Coordinate recruitment and training of kitchen personnel when required.
- Oversee kitchen equipment purchases, maintenance, and repairs.
- Manage stock ordering, inventory control, and supplier relationships.
- Prepare staff rosters and coordinate daily kitchen operations.
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and guide team members.
- Address customer complaints and kitchen-related issues professionally and promptly.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, nutrition, and workplace health and safety regulations.
- Maintain food safety programs and associated documentation.
- Monitor and enforce Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) standards.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff and management.
- Manage time effectively during food preparation and service periods.
- Identify and resolve operational issues efficiently.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Chef in a busy hospitality environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of culinary techniques, food preparation, and kitchen operations.
- Up-to-date understanding of culinary trends and process optimisation.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office, POS systems, and restaurant management software.
- Health and Safety training credentials.
- Culinary school diploma or qualification in food service management (preferred).
