Your new company
Hays is partnering with a large and well-established organisation to recruit an experienced Payroll Team Lead to oversee a high-volume payroll function and lead a dedicated payroll team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys driving process improvements, leading teams, and ensuring the delivery of accurate and compliant payroll services.
Your new role
Reporting to a senior People & Culture leader, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll operation, ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time while delivering exceptional customer service to employees across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and mentor a payroll team within a busy payroll environment.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and related payments.
  • Manage payroll compliance in line with relevant legislation, awards and organisational policies.
  • Oversee superannuation, workers compensation and payroll reconciliations.
  • Provide expert payroll advice and support to employees and stakeholders.
  • Produce payroll reports, analytics and management information.
  • Drive payroll systems enhancements and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead payroll-related projects, upgrades and change management activities.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure strong governance practices.
  • Foster a high-performing, customer-focused team culture.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in a payroll leadership or management position.
  • Strong end-to-end payroll knowledge, ideally within a complex organisation.
  • Excellent understanding of payroll legislation, awards and compliance requirements.
  • Experience leading process improvement and system enhancement initiatives.
  • Proven people leadership and team development skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Relevant qualifications in Business, Finance, Human Resources or a related discipline (preferred).
